Death to the BIG LIGHT

This doesn’t really have anything to do with anything else that we’ve been talking about, but looking through all your interiors inspo made me think of something that I’ve been meaning to tell you.

I’ll start by saying that I don’t think we have ever specifically discussed* the fact that I am extremely picky about lighting, which is weird because it is so fundamental to my whole entire being. Like, the wrong lighting (too bright) ruins my day. In fact, I almost cried a couple of weeks ago when Greg changed some light bulbs in one of the bathrooms to a “daylight” white which is for psychos only. They were changed within 24 hours.

I like a dim light, I like a soft light. I’m the girl getting up from dinner to adjust the light levels, and you can always find me at a wedding hunting through the tent for the dimmer box (as a guest). If it’s too bright or too loud, it just is absolutely not for me.

SO, what I need to tell you is that I recently added a lamp to my kitchen. It’s just a little guy with a cute raffia scalloped shade that sits on the counter next to my coffee maker. And I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I tell you it has changed my life.

You know I’m an early riser, and when I’m up at 5am now I don’t need to touch the overhead lights. I simply click on this warm little light and it feels so cozy and like I’m waking up slowly while making my espresso.

At night, after making dinner when we are just hanging out in the kitchen cleaning up, now we can turn on the little lamp and it is just so much more atmospheric!! Death to the overhead light!!

Also, I recently changed all the bedroom light bulbs to smart bulbs that are connected to my phone and to all of the alexa speakers in the house so now we all read by “candle light glow” before bed which is just…. chef’s kiss.

Ok, that’s all! Just needed you to know this small detail of my day to day.

*except maybe when we stayed at that one hotel that was SO BRIGHT I felt like I was getting cancer just by turning on the bedside lighting.
